Personal Development, Health & Physical Education

Personal Development, Health and Physical Education are the three components of this learning area. We aim to develop in each student, self esteem, social responsibility and well being, movement skills and personal fitness and the ability to make informed health and lifestyle decisions.

Personal Development / Health
This area covers the following content throughout primary school
  • Interpersonal Relationships
  • Growth and Development
  • Personal Health Choices
  • Safe Living
  • Active Lifestyle

Peer Support - students from Kindergarten to Yr 5 participate in Peer Support Program where they are grouped in cross class groups and participate in a range of activities. These group sessions are predominately led by the Yr 6 students with the assistance of a teacher.

Physical Education
All children participate in a range of physical activities at St. Peter's. We believe that regular physical activity assists children become committed to the idea of pursuing a healthy and active lifestyle and enhances the total educational development of each child.
All children from Kindergarten to Yr 6 participate in the following school events:
  • St Peter’s Swimming Carnival,
  • St Peter’s Cross Country Carnival,
  • St Peter’s Athletics Carnival.
Children who experience success at school level carnivals may qualify for the relevant Deanery, Diocesan, MacKillop and ultimately State level carnivals.

Students from Yr 6 may be nominated to attend Diocesan Trials in a variety of sports. These sports include soccer, rugby league, rugby union, netball, hockey, tennis, AFL and touch football.
St. Peter's students are given the opportunity to participate in NSW Sport and Recreation Learn to Swim Programme each year and are instructed by qualified swim teachers.
Weekly physical education takes place on Friday afternoons (mornings in summer) at St. Peter's. At this time children cover topics specific to the syllabus requirements.
Whilst encouraging excellence we also strive to ensure that every child has the opportunity to take part and feel a sense of personal achievement through their sporting endeavours.
